In Da Nang over Christmas or Lunar New Year? What locals wear to a Christmas dinner and to Tết photos, what the weather is like, and how to pick up a dress the same day.
For a Christmas dinner in Da Nang, locals favour black, cream or soft pink dresses with one sparkly detail, worn under warm yellow restaurant lights. For Tết (Lunar New Year 2027 starts on Saturday 6 February), light colours such as cream, beige and pink are traditional for spring photos along the Han River flower street and in Hoi An old town. Evenings in December to February are cool, so bring a light jacket. The Julie, a boutique at 246A Nui Thanh, sells ready-to-wear dresses at fixed prices that you can try on and take home the same day.
Christmas is not a public holiday in Vietnam, but Da Nang celebrates it enthusiastically: churches, hotels and restaurants are decorated and Christmas Eve dinners are popular. Dress code is smart-casual to dressy.
Dark and neutral colours photograph best under the warm lights most venues use. Bright red tends to look flat on phone cameras indoors, so many people keep red to lipstick or accessories.
Tết is the biggest holiday of the year. In 2027 the first day falls on Saturday 6 February, with New Year’s Eve on the evening of Friday 5 February. Many shops and restaurants close for the first few days, so plan purchases before that.
Light, cheerful colours are worn for visiting family, temples and spring photos. Temples expect covered shoulders and a hem at or below the knee.
December to February is Da Nang’s cooler season: mild days, cool mornings and evenings, and the chance of light rain. A light jacket or cardigan over a dress is usually enough.
At The Julie, prices are fixed and marked, Visa and Mastercard are accepted including foreign cards, and you can try everything on in a private fitting room. Message us your size and the dress you like and we will have it ready when you arrive. Open daily 8:00 to 22:00.
The first day of Lunar New Year 2027 is Saturday 6 February. Many businesses close for the first three days.
A dressy outfit in black, cream or soft pink works well. Bring a light layer, as evenings in December are cool.
